New Batman posters
December 14th, 2007In keeping the Dark Knight hype machine going two new posters have debuted. The first one debuted Allocine.com is the international poster, I’ll save the time describing it and just post it.

The second poster is a new domestic one that is apparently popping up in theaters now.

I think they both look decent, but I kind of like the international version better myself. Most of you probably already know this, but there is also a new trailer airing before I Am Legend, plus a 5-6 minute sneak peak playing at Imax prior to I Am Legend. The trailer has popped up on Youtube in a bootleg form already, but has already been pulled. An official trailer should be coming soon though, at which point I will update this to include that as well.
Thanks to Comingsoon.net for the heads up

Amazon BOGO on HD DVDs
December 11th, 2007For those of you who own HD DVD players and have been jealous here recently of all the luck Blu Ray supports seem to have with deals, this news is for you. Amazon has started a buy one get one free sale today on select HD DVD titles. The titles vary and seem to be a mix of Warner and Universal titles, a few are even doubled up in a combo and non-combo format. There are some flicks worth picking up though, so run to Amazon quick and pick some up as I have no idea how long this sale will last.

TNA Impact trailer
December 11th, 2007Here’s a little wrestling news for the 3 or 4 people who actually care. Midway has released a trailer for their upcoming TNA Impact videogame. I personally have always enjoyed wrestling games, but they have been to much of the same old shit in recent years. The Smackdown series has gotten stale and still has problems from years ago popping up now, which is unacceptable. I blame the lack of competition in the marketplace for that, which is why I am looking forward to Impact. I am really hoping Midway can produce a winner with this one, so far it is at least looking pretty good.

A new Crimson Skies game?
December 6th, 2007It may not be official at this point, but it is looking a lot more likely now. Jordan Weisman, founder of WizKids, 42 Entertainment, and more recently FASA announced on the website for his new company, Smith & Tinker, that he has licensed the ‘electronic entertainment’ rights to his MechWarrior, Shadowrun and Crimson Skies properties back from Microsoft.
What this means exactly is unknown, but some possible hints are out there. Take this little nugget
It is unclear as of yet what form Weisman’s plans for these franchises might take. But given the transmedia nature of his recent ventures, and job advertisements asking for experts with Web 2.0 and online game expertise, online world/MMO elements to the company’s projects seem likely.
So there you have all the information I know at this time. The full announcement follows.
Smith & Tinker is pleased to announce that it has licensed from Microsoft the electronic entertainment rights for Mr. Weisman’s previous creations of MechWarrior, Shadowrun, Crimson Skies and the other properties of the FASA catalog.
We’re not quite ready to announce our plans for each property, but please be assured that our goal is to surprise and delight old fans, while welcoming new fans to these fantastic worlds.
A BIG thanks to Gamasutra for this news

Superbad Blu Ray Review
December 5th, 2007Alright, it’s time I try my hand at this review thing. Just to let you know this review will encompass the release as a whole. I will not be breaking it down into individual category scores. Also if you are looking for detailed info on the video or picture quality, you should check out High Def Digest, because you won’t get it here. That said, lets move on to the review.
Going into this past summer I had heard a lot about Superbad, how it was brilliantly funny and I should go see it. I watched the restricted trailers online and decided I was going to have to make a trip to the theatre. Well needless to say, I never got to the theatre so last night was my first experience with this movie and I was not disappointed.
The movie is a fairly straight forward tale of two high school seniors looking to lose their virginity before going off to college. The two men in question, Evan (Michael Cera) and Seth (Jonah Hill) have been best friends for years. They are bound for separate colleges after high school graduation and are making the most of their limited time together.
Seth manages to get invited to a party by Jules (Emma Stone), who just so happens to be the girl he has a bit f a thing for. Knowing his friend Fogell (brilliantly played by Christopher Mintz-Plasse) is planning on getting a fake ID that afternoon he ends up volunteering to pick up the alcohol for the party. Seth of course informs Evan of this and explains his plan to get Jules drunk so he can hook up with her, of course he recommends Evan do the same thing with Becca. As Seth so nicely puts it “You know when you hear girls say ‘Ah man, I was so shit-faced last night, I shouldn’t have fucked that guy?’ We could be that mistake!” Evan is a bit skeptical, but decides to offer to purchase Becca (Martha MacIsaac), his love interest, some alcohol as well. This is the catalyst for all the shenanigans to come, as of course things do not go as planned.
They show up at the local liquor store with Fogell and a list of stuff for him to buy. The problem here comes from Fogell’s fake ID. He has decided he is a 25 year old from
I am not going into anymore details here for fear of spoiling some of the gags. The simple truth is this movie is hilarious and if you enjoy comedy in the vein of Animal House or even American Pie you owe it to yourself to check this movie out. I was quite hyped for this movie and to be honest it did not live up to all the hype, but it was as close as possible. From the way Seth and Evan play off of each other to McLovin and the cops this movie is full of laughs. I will give warning though, if you are easily offended or against foul language, it would be in your best interest to stay away.
Now for a small rundown on the audio and video. To be honest I had no idea what to expect from the video here, I mean it’s essentially a gross out teen comedy. With that frame of mind the picture on this disc impressed me quite a bit. I saw no issues with this 1080p/AVC MPEG-4 transfer at all. Grain seemed to be non-existent and I didn’t see anything that took me out of the film. On the audio side Sony really loaded this disc. They include both an uncompressed PCM track and a Dolby True HD track, both are 5.1 tracks. I listened to this using the uncompressed PCM track over optical, so the surrounds were matrixed in by my receiver. This mix works perfect for this movie. The dialog comes through loud and clear and the surrounds get a bit of work at parties. I found nothing to really take issue with here either. Also included are a French True HD track and Portuguese and Spanish 5.1 tracks, it may seem like overkill but I’m sure someone will enjoy it.
Moving on to the special features…. I will be honest here I have not had a chance to check these out yet, so this bit is based on what is included. That said, they packed this 2 disc set with enough features to keep you busy for awhile (or over two hours to be more precise). Included are the standard deleted scenes, cast and crew commentaries, and gag reel. The feature I am most interested in is the Cop Car Confessions, this feature has select celebrities riding along with our two inept police friends Taxi Cab Confessions style. Also included is video of the cast auditions, which is a feature you just don’t see to often these days. Basically if special features are your thing Superbad has you more than covered.
Simply put this 2-Disc Unrated Blu Ray is a must have disc for anyone who likes to laugh. If you know anyone who fits that broad description this movie would make a great X-Mas gift.
Overall I give this set a 5 out of 5

New picture of Iron Man
December 5th, 2007Well in keeping with today’s movie news. Paramount Pictures sent Comingsoon.net a brand new picture of Iron Man from the upcoming film. The film of course stars Robert Downey Jr as Tony Stark/Iron Man in what what looks like a fun ride.

IGN also got their hands on this picture of Robert Downey Jr as Tony Stark.

Check out the Comingsoon link for a hi-res version of the Iron Man picture. As for what we see here, all I can say is they look to be doing a damned good job with this one. If this movie is up your alley it opens on May 2, 2008.

December and January XBLA titles
December 3rd, 2007Before you get to excited I want to let you know there are no release dates given, just the titles that will release in the next couple months. With that out of the way the titles we can look forward to are Arkadian Warriors, Brain Challenge, GripShift, N+, Omega Five, Poker Smash, Rez HD and Sensible World of Soccer. We know Sensible World of Soccer is coming on December 19th(so one title has a date, sue me) but the rest are anyones guess.
Out of those titles I know a lot of people will be excited for Rez. To be honest I don’t know to much about any of the titles on here. I am still eagerly awaiting Castle Crashers, but it appears I will be waiting a bit longer still.

Pirates of the Caribean: Curse of the Black Pearl replacement info
November 29th, 2007I’m not sure how many of you know about this, so here’s a brief rundown. When Disney released Curse of the Black Pearl on Blu Ray earlier this year reports started coming out, mainly started at the AVS Forums, reporting some framing errors. These errors were not through out the whole of the film, but amounted to I believe about 8 minutes total. The instances varied in length, but a big area of issue was when Will and Jack are fighting in the smithy. The issues largely seem to chop characters heads off at the top of the screen. For examples of these issues, see the AVS thread I reference above.
Well these issues came to light and some were pissed, others could give a damn. Myself I was a bit aggravated, but not completely up in arms. To this point Disney had said nothing regarding this issue, but that has changed as of today. I was turned onto this news by some guys at AVS who linked to The Digital Bits They got some info from Disney regarding this and Disney is doing the right thing and will be offering replacement discs to those with the misframed copies.
Also today, we have a follow-up for you on one other Blu-ray issue. Some of you may recall that a few months ago, viewers reported a framing problem with a few scenes in Disney’s Blu-ray Disc. Disney has apparently corrected the problem in production, so future copies going into stores will feature the correct framing (we’ll try to find out if there’s a way to identify corrected copies by the packaging - UPC number variation or something). In the meantime, if you have a copy with the mis-framed footage, you will SOON be able to call the studio’s Blu-ray customer service hotline at 1-800-723-4763 (U.S.) or 1-800-877-2843 (Canada) to arrange an exchange. Don’t call quite yet - we’ll let you know when the fixed discs are ready. Just know that Disney has been working on the problem, and a solution will be available to you all shortly.
As they say the hotline is not up and running yet, but this is still good to see Disney acknowledging their mistake and making right by the consumer. So if you have the messed up discs keep an eye here and I will let you know when the replacement hotline goes live.

Artie Lang to provide voice for next Leisure Suit Larry game?
November 28th, 2007I personally didn’t even realize a new Leisure Suit Larry game was in the works, but hey i guess you can’t keep a dirty perv down. Ok technically it’s not official yet, but according to the unofficial Artie Lang blog a new title is in the works. Artie, best known from his work on the Howard Stern Show, is supposed to appear as a character named “Big Al.”
I was a bit young when Larry was at his prime, which of course meant I tried like hell to play these games hoping to see some boobs. I know Larry is a classic in the adventure game genre, a genre sorely in need of more quality titles. The last Larry game was Magna Cum Laude, which I actually did play. It was mildly amusing, but nothing great by any means. I do know it did not live up to the older titles. Here’s hoping if this new game happens that it is done right and done well.

Deus Ex 3 is happening
November 26th, 2007Though I think most gamers knew this was going to happen, it is now official. Deus Ex 3 is in development at the newly formed Eidos Montreal studio. General manager Stéphane D’Astous says the game has passed proof of concept and will be the inaugural project for the recently established Eidos Montreal studio.
“This game was very highly rated at its release in 2000,” said D’Astous, “and we have this great huge mandate to do the third one, and everybody is very excited.”
The studio plans to only make “only major AAA games, using only next-gen technology” and is adopting a 24-month development cycle for it’s first titles. No platform has yet been announced, but based on the above comment, it seems likely that the Xbox 360 and PS3 will probably see this game.
The first title in this series was met with great response from critics and fans alike, where as the sequel did not live up to the original. Here’s hoping this upstart studio can bring this franchise back to it’s roots and make all the fans happy, but only time will tell.

Playstation Store live
November 20th, 2007For those of you who own a PSP and have felt left out of the Playstation Store goodies due to not having a PS3 this news is for you. As of today yuo can now login to the Playstation Store from the comfort of your computer chair. The store, located at http://store.playstation.com, contains all sorts of goodies to spend your hard earned money on. You will need to download the PSP Downloader software to get the content onto your PSP, but luckily that is available on the front page of the store. Of course if you don’t own a PS3, you will also need to set up an account, this is relatively painless and free.
The content is fairly impressive for the first day. It has a wide range of items including demos, trailers, PS1 games, and full PSP games. The full PSP games include an exclusive title as well, Syphon Filter: Combat Ops. So if the PSP is your thing, give this a look. If not, move along nothing here to see.
Of course I couldn’t end this post without a full list of available content, so here you go.

With a single day of DLC Rock Band has trumped Guitar Hero 3 in a big way. I for one will be grabbing the Metallica pack and Fortunate Son and may even consider the Police pack. Overall a great selection for the first week, lets see if they can keep this up for the next year.
Also thanks to Koolice on the boards for the heads up.

Halo Free
November 16th, 2007Good news for any potential Xbox 360 buyers this holiday season. Microsoft has realized that the Xbox 360 and Halo 3 go together like peas and carrots. So as a holiday gift to people buying an Xbox 360 between now and December 21st you can get a free copy of Halo 3.
Of course this isn’t as simple as the game being packed in the box, that would be to difficult or rather eliminate the free copy of the game in all the 360s currently on shelves. Instead the game will be sent to you in the mail and should arrive by January 18, 2008. The good news from what I gather is you do not have to mail anything in yourself. Instead when you get that shiny new Xbox set-up you will need to create a new Xbox Live account, silver is acceptable and free. You will then enter your information, which will include the new console’s serial number here. From there it is time to play the waiting game.
All in all I think this is a positive promotion to run for the holiday’s from Microsoft. Considering the Premium and Elite models already come with Forza 2 and Marvel Ultimate Alliance you are now getting three free games with a new console. Hopefully this promotion works well and MS will run more like it in the future.
Thanks to Joystiq for the heads up on this promotion.
UPDATE: I guess the old “if it seems to good to be true it usually is” phrase applies here. Microsoft added a coupl little stipulations to this promotion. This is now good only if you are an Xbox 1 owner and currently subscribed to Xbox Live.

DHL and Toys R Us mess up Mario launch
November 13th, 2007This is going to be a brief (ok not so brief) explanation of my personal experience this evening. Everything was going ok, work was bad as usual, but Mario Galaxy comes out today so I have something to look forward to tonight. I have a bit of personal time left so I figure I’ll leave work an hour early and get to Toys R Us around 5:00pm, which is the time they are guaranteeing Mario Galaxy in store. By this point, I had already called two TRU stores; one is right by my place of employment, the other is closer to home. I called the store near my house around 4:30pm as I was leaving work, but they still didn’t have the game in store. At this point I was a bit worried.
When I got to the store there was a large line at the game section and I thought everything was good, oh but was I wrong! Turns out, according to the TRU employee, that DHL lost the Mario Galaxy shipments for this store. The employee also alleges that DHL not only lost them for this store, but half the TRU stores nationwide as well. Whether this is in fact truth or not remains to be seen, but either way this seems to me to be more than just a minor mistake. The only positive that came from this is the store took everyones name and offered them $10 off the game when they receive it, this is in addition to the $25 giftcard they are offering with the purchase of Mario Galaxy to begin with.
So basicaly to sum this up, Toy R Us and/or DHL fail at getting one of the most anticipated games of the year to the public. If you planned to pick this up at TRU you should call before driving all the way there, and find out what they are going to do to make up for not having the game at the guaranteed time of 5:00 PM. Where as the store I shop at offered $10, all may not do the same.
Update: I have sent emails to DHL and Toys R Us for clarification on this alleged mishap and am hoping to hear back from them soon. I will keep you updated as I find out more.
Update # 2: I will admit I was partially surprised to see that DHL had in fact replied to me. Here is what they had to say
DHL is aware of a one-day delivery delay for shipments of a new product release that were intended to arrive at Toys “R” Us retail locations on Tuesday, November 13 for availability to retail customers on the 14th. A portion of the shipments in this batch experienced a delay.
DHL operations have been working around the clock to minimize any impact on Toys “R” Us customers. At this time, most of the shipments have been delivered or are currently out for delivery to the Toys “R” Us retail destinations.
So not lost per say, but delayed by a day. The Toys R Us store I went to last night received their shipment in first thing this morning, so DHL made good on getting this handled very quickly.
As of this time Toys R Us has not responded to my email with their take on this incident.

Rock Band delayed in Canada
November 12th, 2007In sad news for our friends up North, MTV Games has confirmed that Rock Band has been delayed in Canadialand. Canuckers looking to rock out will now have to hold tight until December 17th, which is also the day the PS2 version of the game is set to release. With EA recently stating Rock Band may be scarce this holiday season, this news could be a sort of confirmation of that. It is possible EA is rerouting some of the supply for launch to the US, of course there could be other reasons as well. One such possibility was hinted at yesterday by Joystiq when they reported this as a rumor, that perhaps with Canada packaging regulations stating that the packaging must be in both English and French could lead to some small delay.
