BlackBerry Outage

BlackBerry Outage

By Paul • About: Technology at 5:12 pm on February 11 2008

A member of the boards, who also happens to be a sales rep for Verizon Wireless, has given us a heads up on a BlackBerry outage that has started at roughly 3:30 pm EST today.

As most of you know, I’m a Verizon Wireless sales rep. No news has been posted on this as of yet but…..

RIM has a serious outage today. Since 3:30pm est, email service has been compromised (or slightly interrupted).

RIM rep told me that outage is hitting most of North America (east coast) and a segment of Canada (where they’re based).

I just got two of approximately 50 emails that should have been pushed to my device.

There has been no official statement by either Verizon or RIM as to what the reason of the outage could be, or when service will be restored to normal. Currently there are limited details but stay tuned for any new information.

UPDATE: The New York Times is also reporting on the issue, citing an e-mail sent out to clients today stating that the outage affects enterprise users, and that RIM was not available for comment.

Paul is Altgn's token Canadian. When he's not oogling over electronics and Apple he's probably out drinking beer, eating beaver tails, riding moose, watching the leaf game or all the above.
